All of a sudden, my yard is growing and weeds have popped up all over, what can I do?

Lawns have greened up fast this year due to those few really warm days that really woke them up like a blaringly loud alarm clock. To eradicate them before they get a real foothold apply a good weed-and-feed product to stop them in their tracks there are several different products in both granular and liquid available at Sutherlands and plan to start a pre-emergent program for your lawn for the remainder of this year and especially next late fall and early spring. It is so much easier to stay ahead of weeds. Read the label to determine it will work on your type of lawn and your weeds, different variations work on different weeds. Always follow the manufacturer recommendations for application and personal safety. Checking to see when to get rid of plants that didn’t fare too well over the winter. Now that plants have leafed out if they are going to you can walk the yard and determine who made it fine, who lost parts and who went to that nursery in the sky. If parts of the plant look dead try the bend and snap test first, bend the stem over with your thumb and if it snaps and breaks it’s dead if it bends there’s some life left; then determine if there’s enough of the plant left to keep or dig up and start over. Plants that normally die back to the ground each winter such as mums and other perennials can now have the old dead tops removed. Till next time, Vicki
